Kitchen Designs Ideas

How To Put Tiles On Kitchen Countertop

    * First of all, you will have to lay out the design you want for your kitchen countertop and get enough tiles    for the same.
    * In case of elaborate designs, it is advisable to work from the center outward. For basic designs, you will need to move from the edges and corners.
    * Now is the time to butter the first piece of tile as well as the countertop area where it has to be placed.
    * Use the notched edge of the trowel to create ridges to allow the adhesive to grab and hold.
    * Next, push down and twist each tile. This will ensure that the tile gets fully embedded and securely seated.
    * Now, follow it with another tile. Continue to prepare the countertop design one tile at a time.
    * In case the need arises for cutting or trimming a tile, make sure to measure carefully and use a wet saw for cuts.
    * Tile nips can be used for small adjustments only. After they are complete, remember to allow the surface to dry.
    * With the help of a rubber float, spread the grout on tiles, filling all the empty spaces.
    * Do not be conscious while using grout, use generously. At the same time, push firmly and at an angle to fill each empty space.
    * Now is the time to wipe off the excess grout, with the help of a damp sponge.
    * Leave the countertop for some time, to allow the grout to dry.
    * Seal the grout with a sealer, wiping n an even coat with a clean sponge. In most of the cases, one application of sealer is sufficient.
    * After the sealer dries, wash off the excess from the tile, using a mild detergent.

Some Tips

    * Always buy some extra tiles, to fill in the gap if any tiles break during installation or afterwards.
    * In case you are planning to have an elaborate design, it is better to make a template first, so that there are no mistakes afterwards.
    * In case you need to follow the design template thoroughly, lay the adhesive tile by tile. Otherwise, apply it in small sections.
